Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need my CDL before I can apply?

-

If you already have your CDL, great — you can hit the ground running. If not, we’ll connect you with one of our trusted CDL schools to help you get started. Once you complete training and earn your CDL-A, you can join U.S. Xpress as a professional driver and start building your career.

How much will I earn as a new driver?

+

We offer some of the highest starting pay in the industry for new CDL holders. Your exact pay depends on your route and experience level, but you’ll start earning right away — and your pay grows quickly as you gain miles and experience.

Will I have to stay on the road for weeks at a time?

+

You have options. Many of our dedicated and regional routes offer consistent schedules and regular home time, while our OTR (Over-the-Road) positions are ideal if you want to see more of the country and maximize your earning potential. You choose the lifestyle that fits you best.

What kind of trucks and equipment will I drive?

+

Student drivers start out in modern, well-maintained tractors. You’ll have features like automatic transmissions, comfortable cabs and 24/7 breakdown support to keep you rolling safely and confidently.

What kind of support will I get as a new driver?

+

You’ll never be on your own. From day one, you’ll have a driver manager, training team, and support staff who know your name and have your back. Our focus is helping you grow into a confident, successful driver — with the resources and respect you deserve.

Can I move up or switch routes later?

+

Absolutely. Once you get some experience under your belt, you’ll have the freedom to transfer into dedicated routes, regional lanes, or team driving positions. Many of our top drivers started as students and now mentor others, run their own routes, or move into operations and leadership roles.

All CDL Drivers must be registered through Clearinghouse per the FMCSA.

No deadline to apply, applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
